good morning, i'm amy hollyfield live in watsonville where authorities will hold a briefing this morning to update us on to the investigation into a plane crash that killed two people. two more survivors return to the bay area today and search and rescue teams to continue the search for several men still missing after their fishing boat capsized in the gulf of california. >> and huge project that one group is saying needs to be scrapped. >> gorgeous picture of the sunrise from sutro tower. a little bit of a warming trend today before the weekend cooling hits. i'll show you how deep the temperatures will drop. >> good morning i'm sue hall in for frances dinglasan this morning. we had a flurry of activity for your mornings commuted now back to friday light and a movie shoot coming up in san francisco. good morning. thank you for joining us i'm kristen sze. >> i'm terry mcsweeney.

federal investigators are expected to be on scene of a plane crash in watsonville that took the lives of two people and seriously damaged a building of the campus of a watsonville community hospital. >> you see the damage behind me along with the wreckage of the plane. the eyewitness accounts coming in this morning is incredible. one man told our media partner he was here in the parking lot when the plane hit two parking spaces down from his car. he was almost hit. he said he saw two faces and two big sets of eyes. the plane explode whd it hit the building. two men on board were killed. it happened at 7:30 last night. it crashed into a medical office building narrowly missing the main building. >> billing department luckily no one was there and no one was

injured except for the peel that were actually on the plane. >> reporter:. that is amy reporting live in watsonville. amy? >> reporter: kristen are you there. okay. did you hear my report. i'm sorry, i didn't know you lost that. okay. just at the end. faa will be on the scene this morning and plan on holding a briefing at 10:00 this morning. they will be updating us on the investigation and telling us what they've learned. as far as we know the hospital is okay hospital was not damaged at all and able to continue operations as normal. live in watsonville, amy hollyfield "abc 7 news." at this hour more survivors of a capsized fishing boat in mexico are expected to return to the bay area. at the same time family members

of the seven men still missing are hoping they, too will have a reunion in the very near future. nick smith joins us live from san jose. >> we're waiting for that bus to pull in now at san jose greyhound station. two of the survivors are expected to arrive by greyhound after a rough trip. the fishermen who survived the capsized boat were met with hugs and family members and friends happy to see them. this photo was taken the night before that tragic fishing trip. now two of the survivors are expected to arrive in san jose today by greyhound. these plans were made after the truck they were driving broke down. the families of other missing men continue to hold out hope. >> the thing they are concerned about is dehydration. basically comes down

survivability so we are still optimistic about the environment being suitable for them. >> reporter: it has been five days since the 27 american tourists were tossed into the sea after stormy waters capsized their charter fishing boat. one man died but seven others are missing. yesterday a c-130 crew completed a search crid but neither they nor mexican search team found anything. today coastguard and mexican navy officials are deciding whether to continue the operation calling it an hour by hour operation. there is also talk of sending divers down to the wreckage. that would happen on sunday. we're waiting for two of the survivors to arrive here at the greyhound station in san jose. in san jose this morning two men are in custody accused of stabbing two other men at a light rail station platform. they were taken to the hospital what was described as non

life-threatening injuries. a spokesman says the stabbing happened at civic light rail station at first and mission. they issued and alert and withs are the police department two people were in custody. >> we finally know the name of the person that was shot at bart station. charles blair hill. he is a transient with no known address. they say he was shot after he threw a bottle at an officer and came at another officer with a knife. he appeared to be drunk. one officer was carrying a taser but didn't use it. bart says one officer is a six year veteran and the other has been on the force about a year. police in antioch are trying to track down two thieves who literally risked their own lives to get their hands on copper. early yesterday morning they climbed power poles and cut several high tension power lines.

they fell to the ground with another force to damage ten vehicles parked on the street below. they are anyone who saw something suspicious to can tact them. state utility regulators are doubling the size of the pipeline inspection time. it comes in response of the san bruno explosion. cpuc gas inspection crew will have 18 members, double the number before the san bruno disaster. they are also creating a new unit to prevent a san bruno-type explosion. they will develop tools to improve pipeline safety. >> a civil grand jury is recommending that san francisco scrap it's central subway project and started all over. $1.6 billion system is supposed to extend the muni service over to chinatown but the grand jury's report says the 1.7 mile

extension does not answer all the problems. it criticizes the proposed route saying it it could worsen muni's on time rate. we start off the morning with clouds but it looks like the sun is fighting hard to make an appearance. >> i think the sunshine will win today but then the clouds will come back with a vengeance tomorrow and that will help the cooling trend. coolest of the air is moving ashore up in the pacific northwest but we'll have to wait for this next system and that will happen over the weekend. take a look the temperatures. if you leaving house right now fairfield, antioch livermore and fremont in low 50s. few clouds hanging around the peninsula coast. we'll have 62 at half moon bay. upper 60s to low 70s in san francisco and richmond. mid to upper 70s oakland and san

mateo. low to mid-80s palo alto and to the south bay around vallejo napa to 88 in santa rosa and mid 90s in the east bay valleys. we'll match those mid on the's around morgan hill and few clouds lingering around the monterey bay and low to mid-70s. take a look at seven-day forecast and put the weekend in. you can see the temperatures drop and few degrees inland where it's going to be warm inland. by tuesday temperatures will be back where they should be. good morning sue. >> good morning. we have an update we're going back down to santa clara county where we had an earlier jackknifed big rig and that has been cleared. however, the lawrence expressway on-ramp is still blocked with debris and emergency crews headed to get that cleared up. we have movie being filmed down around the embarcadero, it's called five-year engagement and

astronauts you are looking at them right here what will be the final shuttle mission they are ready to go. looks like someone is working on something there at the last minute. they may be waiting a little longer. meteorologists say rain could delay the final liftoff of the space program. mike nicco says the forecast is improving by the minute. atlantis has been fueled, if it doesn't launch by monday it will have to wait until july 16 but the launch is set for 8:26 our time. we'll have a special report and bring you that launch live. they are investigating the hacking of the city's tech museum. a hacker broke into the system capturing up to 800 names e-mails and home addresses and

phone numbers. they posted the information to twitter. they tweeted homophobic slurs. they have notified affected members. they alerted the police when abc7 called to ask about the hack attack. a measure to repeal the death penalty and to replace it in life in prison has passed a state senate committee. democrats argued that the death penalty does not reduce crime and it's too expensive. there are 714 people on death row at an annual cost of $186 million. republicans say life in prison without parole does not serve as deterrent for repeat offenders. only 13 inmates have been executed since 1978. governor brown opposes capital punishment. the proposed merger between at&t and t-mobile has drawn criticism.

they say they are investigating the merger and effect on the economy. it held the first public participation hearing yesterday. at&t's president says the merger would be a boost for california. >> we believe the merger is a win-win for california. i think it's going to provide certainly jobs investment and new technology. >> we're very concerned that the lack of competition is going to mean only one thing to consumers and that is prices are on a steady skyrocketed up. california is the only state that is requiring a hearing about the wireless merger. >> the obama administration has unveiled latest plan to help certain homeowners in danger of foreclosure. it will allow some homeowners a year to miss payments while they try to find on a job. it applies to borrowers with

government insured mortgages. the change could help tens of thousands of people keep their homes. take a look outside. we do have clouds and that sun is really starting to come out. >> it's going to warm those inland valleys up to the 90s but this may be one of last days for that. here is a look what is going to be on a tale of two cities over the east bay hills sea breeze had a hard time getting over there. of picture from mount tam as the clouds rolling in from the coast. those are going to keep the coast rather cool and nice breeze around the bay. temperatures right now if you are leaving the house everybody in the 50s until we get out to antioch one lone holdout at 50. 52 in santa rosa and napa. monterey bay inland cloudy conditions all morning and low to mid-50s. highlights three things i want you to know before we go into the weekend, it's going to be

sunny and warm inland but everywhere else pretty mild. temperatures they'll be starts to go tumble over the weekend as more and more clouds gather during the overnight hours as the sea breeze gets stronger and stronger this weekend. for today a little bit of a bump up in temperatures. san francisco about 3 along with san jose oakland and santa rosa about 6 degrees warmer. 14 hours and 39 minutes of sunshine before the sun sets this evening. note the push to the east bay shore and then the retreat right back starting at can the. clouds will hang out around the peninsula coast keeping you in the 60s and 90s developing in the east bay valleys. we'll have a few 90s in south bay los gatos and saratoga everybody else in the 80s. i got 84 in santa clara palo alto, mountain view and you see the low to mid-80s. along the coast low to mid 60s

53 in sunset but near 70 in downtown san francisco. low the mid-50s at beaches. mid to upper 80s in inland valleys. 80 castro valley 81 in fremont and everyone else in the 70s even a 71 in berkeley. we'll have low to mid 90s in east bay valleys. concord and danville right a84. hollister at 89. mets are in town taking on our first place giants first pitch is going to be clear 62 dropping down to about 58 degrees. we'll see those temperatures dropping in the 50s just about everywhere, santa rosa 49 and then we'll have 62 in fairfield and 64 in antioch. here is accu-weather seven-day forecast, you see the gradual cooling trend over the weekend and temperatures just a little below average.

the royals visit to california l.a. getting spruced up and getting welcome to visit prince william and catherine. they are wrapping up their trip to canada. they were presented with white cowboy hats in tradition. they rode on a stage coach during a parade through downtown in calgary but security will be very tight in l.a. for their arrival. governor brown and his wife will be there to welcome the couple. this will meet with business leaders and a few hollywood stars. they will be staying at a home of u.s. british consul general. >> if you really want to see california you have to come to the san francisco bay. >> backpacks are expected to have hundreds of people lining up in the bay area's biggest city this morning. >> and running into trouble injuries being reported after the running of the bulls.

unemployment rate rose slightly so we'll see how investors are taking that news in a live report. federal investigators are expected at the scene of a plane crash in watsonville to figure out why a small plane went down not far from a hospital. amy hollyfield has more on that. hospital visitors are now arriving security guards are giving them a map of the property and explanation of what happened and telling them where to go. they have to navigate the entire parking lot is still closed. you can see the plane wreckage is still here. they have officers posted to watch over this crime scene area and protect the integrity of their investigation. the plane crashed at 7:30 last night. it hit the parking lot of the watsonville community hospital and crashed into the medical office building. it missed the hospital's main

building and luckily it was after business hours so no one was inside the building. we have never imagined something like this could have happened and especially right in our building because it's a hospital and it's pretty big. it could have happened anywhere so we were lucky we weren't out there. >> two men were killed on board. plane is registered in santa cruz. witnesses say it was foggy at the time so there is speculation that that might have caused the pilot some problems but the cause has not been determined yet. federal and local officials will be on the scene this morning and plan to hold a press conference at 10:00 to updated us on the investigation. live in watsonville, amy hollyfield "abc 7 news." for the first time jaycee dugard is speaking publicly about the 18 years she spent in prison in a secret compound near antioch.

in an interview with diane sawyer she talks about her kidnapping at the age of 11 by philip and nancy garrido. she spent some nights chained to a bed. she gave birth to two daughters fathered by garrido. the moment that her first daughter was born he found new strength. >> i felt i wasn't alone anymore. i wasn't alone. >> both philip and nancy garrido pleaded guilty and were given life sentences. she and her daughters are trying to start a new life. you can see more of her interview 7:00 on "good morning america" right after our newscast. the entire interview with jaycee

dugard in a prime time special sunday night at 9:00 here on abc7. texas rangers baseball team says every member of that team is in mourning after a fan fell during a game against the oakland a's. second inning josh hamilton tossed a foul ball towards the stand a fan linda and fell 20 feet. he was conscious after the fall but went into full cardiac arrest on the way to a local hospital. more police will be patrolling the streets of oakland. officers of the police union have voted overwhelmingly in favor of a new contract requiring them to pay 9% into their pensions in exchange the city promises no police layoffs until the contract expires in 2015 22 laid off cops will be re-hired. agreement will cost officers between $9,000 and $16,000 a year, but it will save the city

$65 million over the next four years. >> we get 22 officers who are unemployed who are sitting at home not any money coming in in to their families. we were hoping to get 44 officers but i'm extremely happy. i'm very proud of our officers. >> police officers are humans too they have real financial situations themselves. they are digging down deep in their own pockets to help out the city. >> they say the re-hired officers will be back on the streets by early august. tiburon is dealing another blow to smokers. they approved an ordinance banning smoking in large apartment complexes first time in marin county to do that. smokers have a three-year grace period before the law takes effect. >> as many as million spectators are expected to jam the roads leading to the kennedy space center to watch nasa's last space shuttle launch and they are getting very good news.

when this number came out about an hour and 15 minutes ago i heard a groan on the stock exchange a huge disappointment. this is june jobs report. it's very comprehensive. we saw 18,000 jobs created last month, that was just a paltry number we were expecting 100,000 but that way short. unemployment picked up to 9.2% highest level so far this year. so we've got sharp losses going on in stocks commodities selling off and gold is way up bonds are doing very well this morning also. bloomberg silicon valley index is down half a percentage point. what is going on at apple stores and ossxx lion and match book

to leave the hospital in sweden after receiving the first ever transplant of a synthetic organ grown from his own stem cells. the man suffered from cancer of the windpipe. a tumor became too large to remove so doctors used stem cells from the man's hip to grow cells on a manmade windpipe. they used to it replace the cancerous organ. he said without the transplant he would die. this is considered a landmark achievement. patient no longer has cancer and doctors say he should live a normal life. recapping top stories we're expecting to learn more from federal investigators about the deadly plane crash that severely damaged a building just feet from a watsonville hospital. i'm. >> i'm aim has the latest. >> investigators will take a look at this -- the wreckage is

still here. they have roped off the parking lot to protect the integrity of the investigation. they pulled the plane out building but they've left everything intact. it crashed last night shortly after takeoff from the watsonville airport. it skid across a parking lot and landed in a medical office building. no one was in the building so no one on the ground was hurt but the two men on board were killed. they haven't released their names, but the plane was registered to two men out of santa cruz. the crash did not impact the hospital at all. it missed the main building so they were able to continue their normal care for patients inside. no word yet on the cause of the crash. witnesses say it was foggy at the time so they are speculating it might have caused the pilot some problems. we'll be briefed at 10:00 this morning.

our other top story is search for survivors in the sea of cortez. good morning. you know we are live mere in san jose waiting for that bus to pull into the greyhound parking lot in san jose. you may remember five days ago that 27 american tourists were toss into the sea of cortez after stormy waters capsized their charter fishing boat. one man died but seven others are missing. a c-130 crew completed an investigation but two of the survivors are expected to arrive in san jose by greyhound. these plans were made after the truck that they were driving broke down. the families of other missing men continue to hold out hope. yesterday the coastguard sent out a c-130 and that crew completed a 300 square mile search grid but neither they nor mexican teams found anything.
